Blogging is an effective communication device for our management class, mainly because of its availability that we can access Blogspot at any time, any where outside of class session. Aside from that, what we wrote on blogs are based on primary experience(class activities), rather than what's stated in textbooks. I believe this style of learning will lead the change in future education.
The blogging system creates a platform for people to speak out their opinions, without any fear of being emotionally awkward. Our class is very diverse, and people definitely have different views on management due to cultural differences. Through reading others' blogs, we as a class can understand more of each other. We may learn something that we don't see on textbooks, like the things on Prof K's blog. And it's more interesting to learn from people (the living), than the textbook (the dead).
20% grade on the blogging assignments is a fair policy. However, it doesn't offset my test anxieties much since there is still a large portion of my grade based on my test performance. I would recommend to have one of the blog assignments to be optional,or make one of the blogging assignments to allow people to write in their own languages. So people can have a little flexibility in managing their blogs/grades.
I will continue to post my thoughts on my blog in the future. This is something I started and worked on, and of course I will utilize it to gain the best out of it.

I agree, many people fear speaking in public. The blogs allow for people to speak their mind without the fear. The class is diverse and the blogs do allow for everyone to share their views. Everyone can learn a lot from each other through the blogs.
ReplyDeleteI agree, blogging does give students the flexibility of communicating in more than one way. Professor Kurpris definitely made a smart choice in putting it part of our grade. Since Baruch College is the most diversified college in the students, it is useful and interesting to learn for each and everyone and their outlook on different concepts. I was able to tell different personalities by just reading their blog. You can't judge a book by the cover and so blogging gives you a better insight on a person and their views and thoughts of different management circumstances.
ReplyDeleteI agree that the blogging system makes people feel more flexible with expressing their thoughts. Sometimes it is easier to write something than say it. Also, it gives us the opportunity to learn about and from each other. Everyone has his/her own way of thinking that contributes to see the concept differently.
ReplyDeleteI like your recommendation; I think I will try to write a blog entry in my native language.
It is very true that by communicating via internet, there are less conflicts among our discussions because we can choose to comment on whoever's blog we want. I like your idea on adding more flexibility to the whole "blogging" assignment such as writing an entry in one's native language. I think it would allow us to even better express our thoughts and ideas because languages often don't have perfect "translations." Sometimes there are words in one language that just don't the exact meaning in another.
ReplyDeleteI agree that the blog is more flexible. The blog provides us a way to communicate with other people and know about their backgrounds and thoughts. We can also learn from each other about management or other things. In my opinion, writing blog assignment can improve my writing skills.
ReplyDeleteIts very true that through the blog we learn much about our fellow classmates. Making it part of the assignment to comment on other classmates' blogs created this opportunity to learn about the lives of classmates out of school. i especially liked this aspect of the blog assignment.
ReplyDeleteMost definitely bloggin allows people to more freely express there thoughts, that they would otherwise not express if we were in class. I feel that although we know who's blog it is, we judge the person less because it is not face to face contact. I agree that communicating in a blog makes it easier for all of us to communicate. I am a big believe in learning from people as oppose to learning from a text book. I look forward to reading your blog posts in the future.
ReplyDeleteI'm very happy to learn more about our classmate through this blog. This is my first time do homework in the blog, it's much easier than paper works.
